Booeys: A Ghost's Code

Use little ghosts called Booeys to guide the Lost out of strange and challenging realms as you learn about careers and opportunities in STEM related fields. Part of the TechHire Initiative, Booeys challenges players and allows them to explore careers that utilize their untapped technical skills.

Developed with support from the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (now called Partner4Work) and playtested with local organizations 412 Youth Zone and Phase 4 Learning, Booeys forges a link between gaming and future careers in technology. Each increasingly difficult level represents a strange dimension with new challenges to face and new tools to use. Players control the Booeys to help guide the Lost to the portal using ideas from programming (loops, variables, conditionals) presented as ghostly abilities. After completing higher levels, players earn a printable certificate of achievement that recognizes their in-game performance. Players can share their progress through social media or sign up to access training and employment resources as part the an Obama administration’s TechHire initiative.
