Peale’s Museum is one of five videos for Independence National Historical Park for the web and new visitor center. Charles Wilson Peale--a prolific artist, naturalist, and educator--housed the nation’s first public museum on the second floor of Independence Hall between 1802 and 1827. This innovative museum diplayed his portraits of early American leaders and featured innovations such as gallery walks, specimen organization using the Linnaean system, and a collection of inventions.
Because few visual resources exist about the museum except for several paintings and artifacts, we decided to take a more creative approach to bring it to life. Using greenscreen, animation, and period imagery, we created a surreal tour of this unique museum led by Peale himself.
We used a creative approach to educate and engage audiences about Peale’s Museum while providing valuable interpretive content.
